DAVAO CITY — Yesterday (13 June 2016) The incoming spokesman of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, Salvador Panelo brushed aside the result of a recent SWS (Social Weather Stations) survey which showed that Vice President-elect Leni Robredo is more trusted by Filipinos than the next Philippine chief executive.

The survey did not reflect Duterte’s landslide victory during the presidential race. Panelo said.

In a chance interview said that “How can that happen when he (Rodrigo Duterte) got an overwhelming mandate? He has yet to assume office and then he got (a net trust rating of positive) 26? It seems unbelievable,”.

Panelo said it is possible that the respondents in the SWS (Social Weather Stations) survey were supporters of Duterte’s rivals.

“Naturally, if you ask the non-supporters, that’s the rating you will get,” he said.

“The reality on the ground is he is going to win by a landslide. That’s what happened so I don’t believe in surveys that much.” he added.

Robredo fared better in the survey with a “good” 45% net trust rating. About six in every ten respondents or 61% had “much trust” in Robredo? While 17 percent had “little trust” in her.

Our tough-talking President-elect Duterte who won by a landslide with more than 16.6 million votes, got a “moderate” net trust rating of +26 in the SWS survey conducted from May 1 to 3? More than half or 54 percent of the 4,500 respondents said they had “much trust” in Duterte while 28 percent had “little trust” in him.

The non-commissioned nationwide survey had a sampling error margin of ± 1 percentage point.

While skeptical of surveys, Panelo believes Duterte would gain the trust of Filipinos once he assumes office.

The incoming spokesman said that “There will be action on his first day,”.
