ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia (AP) — In an interview while visiting Magnolia before going to China this Sunday (05 June 2016) for annual US-China strategic and economic talks, John Kerry the US Secretary of State says China would be committing a provocative and destabilizing act if it establishes an air defense zone in the South China Sea.

He mentioned that doing it would raise tensions between China and other Asian countries.

He also said that such an act would also call into question China's commitment to resolving disputes over islands and maritime claims diplomatically.

Kerry says the US doesn't take sides on competing claims and no country should move unilaterally to militarize the resource-rich region.
